Hi, I am watching Rebus on the Drama Channel. Does anybody know what City in Scotland is it set in? Is it Glasgow? What do you think about the series? I do not think it is better than Taggart.

Edinburgh
Edinburgh, I've got three books to read - they're better than the TV series
Sibs, I have all the Rebus novels. Which ones have you yet to read?
I've read all nineteen Rebus books - a new one 'Even dogs in the Wild' is due out in November.
Like all these things, the books are far better than the TV series. In which case Taggart wouldn't compare as there are no books ...
The TV version of Rebus used John Hanna in the title role, which was an appalling choice for fans of the books as he was far too young. Ken Stott was much better.
Rebus has now retired, but thankfully has been resurrected for further novels.
It's not entirely filmed in Edinburgh. I was once in a Glasgow hotel (The Arthouse) when a scene was being filmed.
Set in Edinburgh. I like the show with Ken Stott as Rebus, but can't stand John Hanna. He is much to pretty to play the character.
John Hanna had bought the rights to the first few books and was determined he was going to play Rebus himself. It was only when somebody else owned the rights to the later books that the right thing happened and Ken Stott was brought in.
Set almost exclusively in Edinburgh, my extensive knowledge of Edinburgh is from reading Rebus! As others have said, the books are far better because they're too complex for a couple of hours on TV.
