99P Stores

I've never been in one, but walked past one yesterday. I saw things like milk, eggs, loo rolls, soap through the window. Could you possibly do a 'decent' weekly shop in one of these places?

99p Stores and Poundland (who recently acquired the 99p Stores group anyway) tend not to sell many 'main meal' items (although you can get quite a lot of canned stuff there). So you'd struggle to do the main part of your food shopping there. However for everything else (such as toiletries, cleaning products, many general household requisites, etc) you can get much of what you want in their stores.
Unsurprisingly, at their low prices, there's quite a lot of rubbish among what they sell but there's also a surprisingly large quantity of perfectly good items on sale and, at only around a quid to give something a try, it's well worth investigating what they've got.
For example, if you try their non-alkaline batteries you'll quickly discover that they last hardly any time at all and should be avoided in future. However if you try their alkaline batteries you'll find that they're every bit as good as Duracell (etc) and around a quarter of the price.
Similarly, their cheap disposable razors will scratch your skin but their other toiletry items are often as good, or better, than products costing far more elsewhere.
