Sharp, Superficial Pain On Head

Hello all
I have been getting intermittent pains on the front/left side of my head, which last a very short time and then go completely. I can't describe it as a headache because that would imply a pain deeper in the head and this is on the surface. It almost feels like the kind of 'wincey' pain you get from a sensitive tooth. I am going to resist the urge to Google it so am wondering it anyone has any ideas on this please.

I've experienced similar in the past. Never knew for sure what causes them. They stop after a while. I too suspected a dental cause.

I must say that I agree with O_G although several things come to mind in the absence of a more detailed description.
Monitor the situation for the next few weeks.

I have had something similar from hayfever related sinusitis.

Thanks everyone. Will wait and see then :) I don't think it's a dental prob because I haven't got any top teeth on that side. Sqad-what are the 'things that come to mind'?

Well, the main thing that needs excluding is a condition called Temporal Arteritis, which would need diagnosis by blood tests and treatment by steroids, but the pain that you describe is not typical of this disorder, which tends to be "throbbing" in nature.

It is not a common disorder and is a rank outsider at 500-1

Thanks Sqad. No, the pain doesn't throb. In fact, since I posted here on AB, it has only happened once today! You must have scared it away for me-amazing! ;)
