Adobe Acrobat Reader For Windows Xp

I am using version 5.0 of Adobe pdf reader (on Windows XP), which causes problems opening some newer pdfs.

Looking at the Adobe website, it appears that they no longer offer any reader compatible with Windows XP. In the past, I updated my Adobe files, only to find I had been directed to a bogus site, downloading malware onto my PC.

Can anyone direct me to a secure site that that offers a free (and the most up to date) Adobe reader which works on XP (32 bit)?

Have you considered dumping Adobe Reader in favour of the much better Foxit? Most of the "in the know" people in Tech on here like it -

^Left side, "Free Download" - I can't recall if there are any boxes that you need to untick (offering toolbars etc), so take care during the process if you decide to install it :-)

At the moment I am using 'PDF Creator' and 'PDF architect' - they seemed to arrive together, a free download - I too find that adobe acrobat reader is a drag. Make sure you uninstall Adobe Acrobat reader from the control panel to avoid further probelms.

All of the computer magazines advise that Adobe Reader is one of the (many) programs that nobody should ever have on their computer. Foxit (as recommended by Lie-in King) is by far the most popular alternative but Sumatra PDF (which is what I use) is also excellent:

Adobe Reader is cumbersome and slow (especially on older computers running XP). If you click to download a pdf file, not realising that it's several hundred pages long, you can end up waiting ages (perhaps a quarter of an hour or longer) for Adobe Reader to fully open it. Sumatra PDF will open it within a few seconds.

I have awarded Buenchico ‘Best Answer’, since I took his advice to use Sumatra, which works a treat. Undoubtedly the other options offered would also have resolved my problem.
