Nosey Friends

How do you deal with extremely nosey friends who quizz you expecting detailed answers about your personal life and then are vague if you ask them a question in return.

Why do they do this? I don't get it - it's very irritating!!

Just smile sweetly and say,,,Mind your own!!Blunt,but to the point,then ask them very personal enquiring questions until they catch on!

When they ask you these questions, just politely reply "Now that would be telling" & move on to something else. Hopefully, they'll soon get the message!

tell them in a jovial way not to be so nosey they should soon take the hint that way you wont upset anyone

i have no problem in telling them "why are you getting all up in my business? and ignore their question. works all the time. no one can make you say what you don't want to.

I've found that kind of rudeness stops right after I smile knowingly and ask "why do you want to know?"

In the alternative, simply tell them you think that is an extremely personal question that you are uncomfortable answering or discussing. Some people are quite unable to take a hint and you must just put it to them in unequivocal terms.

Given I'm a fairly talkative person, I find that monosyllabic, 'yes' and 'no' type answers tend to be effective.

I don't have friends like that, only family and aquaintances.

My sister-in-law is particularly bad, but I do not usually answer personal questions she asks me.
My standard answer is: We'll see!

Thanks but I told her to mind her own business and she said I wasn't being very friendly. Still not getting much out of her. Maybe her life is a lot duller than mine!

I think I may have to resort to violence!!!!

I just change the subject! Or you could telling an outrageous lie - they'll get bored of asking and getting no answer in a while.
