My son has lived with me for the last 10 years and I would like him to move out. He does nothing around the house except his own washing and only gives £100 a month which pays his council tax and £65 for everything else. He only works part time and says the council will not help him unless I write a letter saying I want him to leave - is this right - and if so who do I send it to.

I am guessing that this will vary from council to council as so many things do. Why don't you look on your council's website or phone them and ask?
yes - you have to evict him
Even if you do evict him, single healthy men are way down the list when it comes to getting council housing, don't expect them to help him anytime soon. Can't he find a flat/bedsit to rent privately?
perhaps the council help that the OP is referring to is housing benefit though?

Yes plenty of private flats in town but he only works part time and says he won't get help with the rent although I am willing to pay a deposit. Sounds awful to evict your son guess I will just leave it for now. Thanks for taking the time to answer x
As a healthy single male all the council will do is provide him with a list of rooms available to rent. He can claim housing benefit to help with his rent , but how much he gets depends on his income and the rent of the room.
He can go on the housing waiting list but it will be years before he gets an offer.
