Wishful Thinking?
Apparently a “secure zone” is to be created for trucks queuing to use the cross-channel ferries from Calais:

Hopefully it will be a little more secure than the area surrounding the entrance to the Channel Tunnel:

I was struck by the meaningless twaddle spouted by Yvette Cooper.
// Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said Britain's border was the scene of a "terrible crisis" where lives were being lost and people were being injured.
"When order breaks down a difficult situation can become very desperate and that is what is happening now in Calais," said the Labour leadership contender.

My idea of a secure zone would to be to have a large Hangar like structure which could house 30-40 UK bound lorries at a time. The drivers go in one side and are given a token. The drivers are instructed to vacate cabs and wait in an adjoining room. All tokens are counted and when the security are satisfied that alllegitimate drivers have vacated their cabs a vacuum is introduced into the hangar. Drivers return to their lorries and drive out exit doors straight on to euro star freight carriages.
Loads of signs warning potential terrorists of illegally boarding these lorries in multi-national languages of course. Yes that is my wishful thinking.

Yes I thought my TIC fantasy would ruffle the feathers of the anti-British brigade.
No .Rentokil is to control vermin not terrorists but I would love to know a way that the people of Britain can sleep safe with you being the guardian of our shores gromit.
Your chums in Europe are issuing threats to issue EU passports to all and sundry so they can be facilitated through Europe's border less countries to reach us.
You have such a pro europe stance and sympathy with Greece. They are in queer street but you think we should bale them out. They could quite easily issue passports to blackmail Europe as well.
On another thread you remained adamant that immigrants were not responsible for overcrowding but the blame lay on our older generation.
No point in attempting a debate with your warped logic.

I don't know which way to go on this. To be honest Retrocop has the right idea in basics - but not in the suffocation bit! How about adapting his idea so that any extra bodies would be shown up on the lorries by examination?
We are going to have to return to France about the end Sept. (to clean and 'bed down' Mr. J2's house for the Winter - ready for the new selling season in the Spring (It's a really nice house in a lovely area if anyone knows anyone who is interested and it is going very cheaply, to save us the bills and worry.)
Back to O.P. I am now starting to worry about the journey, goodness only knows what it will be like about the end of Sept.. With dog accompanying we can only really go via the Chunnel or the short crossing. Even the Chunnel seems to be under siege.
How did we get to this? I've really started to think that we should return to an us (UK) and them (rest of the world) viewpoint. (This is as of this evening.)

Actually, the solution might be the one suggested by the Government.
Get the lorries to a secure place off the highway. De-louse them before they board the ferry. A great deal will be down to how secure they can make the compound, but it should be beyond the wit of the border force to guard such a small area.
