Nervous Breakdown

what does the above mean to you? How would you define a nervous breakdown?

I would think 'taking to your bed' was probably more a middle class privileged. Most women in the 40's and 50's had houses and children to look after and could not go to bed for a week. Most mental health in women was classed as 'bad with her nerves' and said in a derogatory fashion as if the woman was weak. Men had 'nervous breakdowns but only if they were middle class. lol!
