Why Do People Keep Large Snakes As Pets !
31 Answers
During my work, I meet all sorts. Last week, I interviewed a young woman that had a 6 foot Royal Python as a pet ! I don't mind corn snakes but this thing gave me the willies ! It was HUGE !
She sat there, on the sofa, with it round her neck and I never took my eyes off it for one second. She asked me if I would like to hold it, and I nearly passed out !

I agree Mikey. I am not afraid of snakes but it seems to be a pointless to have a huge one like that as a pet. They are beautiful animals but very powerful. How can anyone converse with a snake like one does with cats, dogs and even some humans.

I have a Royal python, he's between 5 1/2" and 6", and my newest addition is 3 foot corn snake. They are fascinating, beautiful creatures. I keep them in the temperatures and humidity best suited to them, and enjoy feeding them only when they are hungry (python between 10 and 21 days, corn 6-10 days). A snake of these sizes would not eye up a human for dinner! I hear a lot of stories about someones hairdressers cousins sisters aunt being 'sized up' by snakes, but they are just that. Stories. I am not scared of my snakes, but I am cautious. They can be unpredictable and capable of striking at any time. I'm after a boa next
Mamy - maybe Peter could have a word with Princess Merlin. The vet resorted to gauntlets and a cat muzzle to get near her last time that we were in. The vet admitted defeat after a while - I am sure that the vet looked scared.
Alwaysconfused - do normal vets deal with snakes or do you have to find a specialist vet?
One of the younger vets at our practice said that rabbits are vicious and can die with the stress of going to the vet. I believe that they can deliver quite a kick.
I am trying to ignore Frankie. I gave then a sachet of Whiskas and it was rejected, I gave then some ofther fishy thing and both of them ate the jelly. Now he has started screaming for something else. He is using his claws on my leg as part of his persuasion process. He is still screaming and attacking one of the scratch poles.

Must confess it saddens me when I see snakes, lizards, exotic birds, or any wild non domesticated pet kept in captivity. Where are animal lib and animal rights brigade on this. They are pretty keen on protecting foxes and badgers or even mink. Perhaps they all have pet snakes or spiders. Bet the farmers don't have such pets.
