...As I enrolled on Answerbank some 6.5 years ago I could look from my window on about 15 rooftops, some Victorian, some twenties, some later still. All roofs different, yet all of tile or slate construction.

Today I look from my window and I see 7 original roofs and 8 which are now solar panels......they are nearly as abhorrent as wind turbines, and just as bluudy useless at generating electricity.IMO

.they are nearly as abhorrent as wind turbines,

nah...I like wind turbines
Solar panels generate quite a lot of electricity for private homes depending where you live. We have solar panels on one of our outbuildings and it provides all the electricity for the house and buildings in the height of (a good) summer, and lighting in the barns in the winter. I would love a windmill but they cost a fortune.
Hi janz, I agree .. the solar panels are ugly. I don't know how effective they are.
not as ugly or dangerous as a nuclear power station. people need electricity and using up roof space where you can is good.
Sorry, I don't think that solar panels are ugly at all.....
All I can go off is the solar panels put on the roofs near to me. Are there different types? I'm not saying there isn't a need to utilize the best most efficient source of power, of course there is. The solar panels I have seen are ugly.
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...so I suppose ugliness is, too!
I think wind turbines are beautiful, harnessing mother nature, they are awesome.
I like the look of wind turbines.
We have loads of turbines around our way as its so flat but I dont see any reduction in my electricity unit price
why would you see any reduction? The electric goes straight into the National Grid not your house! Last year was so sunny we 'sold' some of our solar power back to the grid (your meter goes backwards I think)
'just as bluudy useless at generating electricity.IMO'

Well you are wrong. They do generate electricity. Today, mine generated 8.Kw. That's almost £ 4.00 worth.
That'll cover your laptop leccy for today Tilly
I wish to add a question to the posting from janzman.

How many years does it take to recover the cost of installation for the ugly panels.? Perhaps the panels will need to be replaced before outlay costs are recouped.!!

Hans.
