If mum (older and probably more experienced) is down as the main driver, and you are unfortunate and have a bump, they will not be happy bunnies if they discover (as they surely will) that in fact "high-risk" you have been the main driver all along. They can declare the insurance void because of the deception. That makes you an uninsured driver at the time of the accident. That's a big offence, and can end in your licence being revoked, as well as you persoanlly having to personally pay out any compensation for the accident. So do as Steffomini says, be honest, pay up, and soon you will be an experienced driver, with lower premiums.
If you stay on someone elses policy (as my wife does) you don't earn any no-claim discounts - so although my wife's driven accident-free for years on my policy, if anything happens to me it'll be expensive for her to get her own insurance!
