Condenser Boiler ...cost Effective !?
10 Answers
Having a new condenser combi Worcester fitted on Saturday.
I hear all the stories etc about how "efficient" they are...but are they ? because I cant seem to find anybody who can actually say theyve noticed any tangible difference/savings on their gas bills, operationaly maybe they are but thats about it.
Hyperthotically if it were to save me £200pa on gas thats still around 12 years to recoup the initial outlay, and £200 is more fantasy than even hypothetical.....I just cant see where the savings are here over the average lifetime of the boiler and gas costs. As far as i can see there are no real savings that you would notice in most peoples adult lifetime, its all just spin !....etc
any of you actually notice a tangible saving to the degree you can actuall say you notice it in your pocket ?

Its easy to see the difference when the potterton fired up it was like the burners in an oven only worse, when the condensing boiler fires up its like one small gas ring... a big difference, also no storage tank to heat so from my point of view a big saving. (also no pilot light )

Baz - these are my actual gas consumption figures, using a Worcester-Bosch condensing boiler for central heating, occasional gas fire in lounge, and all hot water. 3-bed house, detached, double-glazed throughout, 18" insulation in loft, 2 persons living in house. Midlands.

Last November I bit the bullet and changed my 30 year old boiler for a WorcesterBosch condensing boiler. At the time I was paying Eon £138.00 per month for fuel.
In April this year Eon informed me that they were reducing my direct debit to £98.00
I was more than pleased and could only imagine that it was down to the more efficient boiler..
Last week Eon informed me that as I had managed to build up some credit and they were reducing my direct debit even further.... My payment is now £58.00.
So either the cost of fuel has come down dramatically or I am using less fuel. Either way I'm not complaining.

Changed my free standing old boiler to a new Bosch Worcester condensing type and the savings were really noticeable. I can't give you exact figures but in the first year of use I halved my gas consumption, plus I freed up a load of space in the utility room. Only downside was that I used the utility room for drying clothes on an airer, when I changed the boilers over the clothes took ages to dry off as the old boiler was putting out a lot of heat from the unit itself, the new boiler is virtually cold on the outside as all the heat is going into the water. I had it serviced recently and the meter the plumber used showed it running at 99% efficent the old one was 75%.
I found the best way to cut down on heating cost ie gas..I have s very reliable 24 year old valiant combi which still is very reliable. 3 years ago I fitted a corddless thermostat. Because I am retired snd at home more than most.I put the heating on and off manually when I'm hot it goes off
the gas bill has come down by at least a third, if not more and I am at home more.
