Nobody on AB needs to guess what my answer will be. It is a colossal error and – leaving aside some dodgy calls made in the preambles to and during the wars - probably the biggest political blunder in Europe for a hundred years or more. The people who devised and implemented it were adequately warned of the pitfalls of introducing a common currency without...
"At least,ichy,those weren't a mickey mouse currency. "
You're allowed to speak English, by the way.
Lira millionaires, like our friend's friend above, could buy a bottle of water and a biscuit before running out of cash. That has something of the air of Michael Mouse about it ...
Of course it was a colossal error. When I moved to France people were always asking me why the UK wouldn't join the eurozone - I fudged answers. When I left they were all saying how wise we had been.
The whole EU is wrongly thought-out. Individual nation states bound to each other by treaties would work - political unity is impossible I.M.O. and the sooner we disentangle ourselves, the better.
When the Euro was first muted I thought well maybe that will sort out the currency speculators as they can knock individual currencies around but not one used by 15 or more countries. However as so many countries have been let in without properly qualifying for the financial requirements its all unravelling. We dont seem to have managed to badly being on the outside looking in.
Ich - you know as well as I that it was piecemeal treaties which combined to cause the 'problems' in 1914 and I think you are being a bit naughty in not realising that I am talking about something like a modern 'grand treaty' whereby the whole lot of countries involved in Europe could promise something simple like 'I won't attack any of you and will work with you as far as I can without threatening my own state'. Politicians can make it 'proper' - I'm not one and it's late so I'm not going to start. Nice try though :o)
so it's our fault then methyl! right oh! we ain't even in it but It's all our fault it's a bag of merde. What a strange dimension you Euphiles inhabit!
