What was the Carla Rosa, existing from 1875-1958.

As far as I know the Carla Rosa opera company was (and I think still is) Britain's oldest opera company. I think it was formed in the 1870s (which would tie up with your starting date) but as I believe it is still going, I don't know where 1958 comes in. I believe 1958 is a significant date in the history of Sadlers Wells opera so maybe it has something to do with that.

Carla Rosa is the touring arm of the Sadlers Wells opera. They were touring only last year.

As far as I understand the situation the original Carl Rosa Opera Company ceased performing in 1958. The organisation was revived in, I think, 1998 and began touring and performing again. Sadler's Wells Opera Co was renamed the English National Opera sometime in the 1970s. Not to be confused with a company called New Sadler's Wells Opera that operated in the 1980s/90s!

The Carl Rosa web site doesn't make any mention of a current link with English National Opera.
