I really want to go travelling next year for 3months but the love of my life! is concerned about the whole cost.

We have priced up the cost of the flights and it's a total of 1000. We probably have a budget of about 2500. Will 1500 see us able to survive in hostels over the 3 months? Also, what is the average price of a hostel a night for two people (twin room) - an estimate?

Please help I'm so confused as it's something I've always wanted to do!!!!

this sort of thing varies enormously between countries, so it's partly a matter of where you want to go. In warm countries, for instance, you may be able to sleep on beaches for free (with due care). Use buses and trains where you can, usually cheaper than planes (but not always, if you want somewhere served by Easyjet.)
It really depends on where you are going like JNO says, Im in Australia at the moment Ive been backpacking since October and I have spent at least 5k sterling. Ive been working too so on average I have spent 1000 pounds a month just on myself- and thats certainly not living the high life. Bear in mind you need to eat drink and entertain yourself for 3 months as well. You might wing it in Asia or South America but you have no chance in Australia or New Zealand in my opinion unless you bring your flexible friend. Hostels in Australia for a double room are anywhere between $80 and $120 a night for a double room- thats between about 32 quid and 50 quid a night. I hope you have a lovely time and I hope this helps somewhat x
If you want to swan around like SPK and spend $80 a night be my guess. if you wanna have a great time on a budget, go to a hostel and share a room with other people. Costs about $20-25 and you meet loads of cool people. I went travelling around Australia last year and you can spend as much or as little as you like. Food is cheap, accomodation is cheap. Entertainment? try playing cricket on the beach all day, with some locals. costs nothing!!
go thailand. I've just got back from there and spent approximately 3 months out there (and adjoining countries), flights will cost you around 400 and you could make 1500 stretch to about 3 months, hostels, eating and drinking and extras all included.
Just to point out macca 86 I havent been "swanning around" in double rooms in hostels I was merely answering the question for samie_ boo

I would suggest that 250 per person per month is going to be a bit tight. But that is not a reason not to go!! If you want to make 1500 last three months, you need to make sure you go to cheaper countries. Asia tends to be cheaper, Latin America tends to be more expensive, but better quality. You can get rooms in parts of Asia for a few pounds, we got a room in Indonesia for about 2 a night. You can do things which will make money go further, drinking in bars is expensive, drinking in Irish bars even more so. Get beer from supermarket. Don't eat out all the time.

If you go travelling and your money runs out after two months, and you have to come home. I guarantee that you'll have a better time, than going to work for a couple of months!!
