Doux is sweet, brut is dry for champagne and cider and sec is dry in wine and demi-sec is medium.

You have to be a bit careful with the term sec. It's used differently for still and sparkling wines. Have a look at this link here.

Forget all that - just drink Australian wine. Far better.
