If Donnie Darko is a 2001 film then how come it's only now we are aware of Gary Jules' version of Mad World? A deserved Christmas number 1 but why the delay in it's release?

Because Donnie Darko wasn't a big hollywood blockbuster it has been bubbling away gathering popularity by word of mouth for the past 18 months or so in this country.....I have been enjoying the song and film now for well over a year but the general public are growing more and more apathetic towards searching out new stuff and are getting more lazy, needing the blaze of publicity generated around most new hollywood tripe (and most new rubbish pop acts as well) to find out about anything.

Pure manipulation, I reckon. A song that had a reasonable chance of being xmas #1 (I consider it totally inappropriate) that would have people with large wallets and low IQs all agreeing what a 'Mad World' it's become. Lame or what?

No LeMarchand I had thought that might have been a possibility as well but I checked with sources and was told there was no rights issues (orzabal and co have patched things up) and the song was held back until it was thought a relase was feasible.

Because Radio 2 started plugging it in November. sft could be correct (or talking mince) depending on how you interpret his answer. I'd love to know why Tapirman considers it inappropriate - possibly because it's not the usual Christmas mush?
