Scrolling Slideshow
7 Answers
To explain my problem...I have been tasked (by the wife!) with doing something for her Mums funeral. The hotel we are going to for the post funeral drinks has a projector which can be linked to a laptop (I'm assuming its a USB but will check). She wants me to scan some photos of her Mum onto the laptop (I'm OK with that bit) and then use some software to project a slideshow of the photos which constantly repeats. This is where I need the help. Does anyone know if there is some free software that will do that if I save the photos as jpeg's (or any other format for that matter) and that is easy to use?

You can set the parameters very easily, i.e time image is on screen, loop the show indefinitely, just click on the first image and press the s key to load the slideshow part, press start and away you go.

You could make a proper 'presentation' using PowerPoint or a similar program (such as Impress, which is part of the free OpenOffice suite of software). However I wouldn't bother as the following is far simpler:
Download and install Irfanview onto your laptop:
http:// www.irf anview. com
[It's an outstanding image viewer (that's about a zillion times better than the rubbish that comes with Windows) that's also got lots of advanced options, such as a slideshow facility]
Put all of the pictures you want to use into a folder.
Open Irfanview.
(If the window isn't full-screen, maximise it)
Go to File > Slideshow.
Use the navigation bit at the top right to navigate to the folder you're using.
(The list of all the files in that folder will now appear in the pane at the top right).
Click on 'Add All'
(The list will now also appear in the pane at the bottom right)
Put a tick against 'Loop Slideshow' and 'Hide Cursor'
Remove the tick against 'Show text'
Adjust the time interval (for the slides to change) to your choice. (I suggest trying 'Automatic after 10 seconds').
Click 'Play Slideshow'
Job done! (Use 'Esc' to terminate).
My technique will give you a slideshow of the same type as you would get with an old-fashioned slide projector. (i.e. as one picture goes off the screen, the next one replaces it). That will probably be good enough for what you need. However if you'd rather create a full 'presentation' (where slides can, for example, dissolve into each other as they change) then download and install OpenOffice:
