Our security services have been doing a great job, touch wood. We don't/won't hear much about them,,,,,until and if something goes wrong.

Svejk is spot on here: the security services should be like a good football referee: when they do their job well you don't notice they are there.
Yes, svejk is right. Why does the head of MI5 feel the need to mention this?
My suspicion is that he is not completely sure that they are on top of the terrorist threat (as well as keeping the funding coming, obviously).

svejk is of course right. How would we know jno? We call it common sense do we not. The ones that are not put on the B.B.C. are ongoing. Yes divebod more funding is essential, the threat is funded by limitless money. The vicious need only one atrocity to make a deadly point that they alone celebrate.
"Who do we know" I get nofications at work. Nothing new there.

Perhaps MI5 are reminding us that a guard dog needs to be fed. When it happens (god forbid) we all kick the dog.
