Roughly how long would it take to re-wire a complete (occupied) 3 bedroomed terrace home? Albeit they discovered solid wooden beams in the roof instead of cross sections. (electricians will understand what they mean) I hope. It was a nightmare because three came together on day1 ,3 for morning day2 ,2 for the afternoon on day 2 and 2 all day on day 3 and 1 only all day on day four. It is not something I would advise anyone to have done while in occupancy, oh the work I have now got to do to get everything clean again. They put in 3 new power points also.

So they did it all in 4 days? Sounds pretty good to me. I hope you had an electrician who can self certify the work under building regs. If not then you'll have to get your, council's building regs dept to certify the works. If you don't then your house insurance could be invalid should damage be caused by an electrical, fault and you would probably have problems if you try to sell the house.

This is actually a Council house, so I leave all the necessaries up to them, i m just so amazed at the speed and noise of floorboards crunching up and down and how 3 of them never fell over each other, which made me wonder what a 'normal' sort of time one electrician would have taken.
Sounds pretty good to me. For a council house, they'll be approved contractors, so all kosher.

Not an electricians favourite job, rewiring while occupied. Known as "house-bashing."

Time taken will depend on whether the wiring is surface-mounted in ducting (much quicker, but unsightly). Also, whether they can "pull through" the old wiring and install the new in the same channels. The longest way is to chase everything into the walls from scratch. That takes longer. It's all messy, though.

Thank you for the replies, they did do some in ducts and some 'pull throughs' but oh the pink plaster film dust is over everything! There was no way to move and cover as they moved through rooms so fast and could not waste time for that! Oh well, I have so far managed to clean downstairs and up to the landing. The rest has to wait for another day...............
