Can someone explain the answer to the following question please,
I bought a washing machine last year and have paid insurance for it byP O S monthly from RBS
A fortnight ago I got a letter from Curries saying that the bank had declined the payment and I wouldn't be insured etc if it wasn't paid . I phoned the bank and was told that payment was nothing to do wih them and did I tell them I had a new debit card . It was news to me as I have had the card since 2013 but girl argued with me it was renewed in July this year ? thought the 13 was a 15, Question is if it is nothing to do with the bank who has been taking the payment off every month since last year , I do have enough money in my account to have paid it , I have moved it to direct debit. Thanks anyone who can explain it.
If your card had expired and you weren'y paying by DD then you had given the insurer permission to request it each month from your debit card- which they did until it expired. So it wa sthem taking the money not RBS. that's my guess if it had expired and depending on what POS is
Just as an aside....why are you paying any insurance (presumably breakdown cover) on a new washing machine? Has Currys been pushing it's useless cover again?
I am confused too P O S means point of sale . It was girl on telephone who said my card had expired which it hadn't , it doesn't expire until 2016 so had no reason to tell them that when it hadn't . remains a mystery. Thank you.
It seems to have been sorted now and it seems they were taking the money from RBS although I'm confused between the 3 expiry dates of 2103, 2015 and now 2016 and it seems the bank and/or the insurer were confused too
Thanks . I got the card in 2013 , expires 2016. Girl in Bank told me I had got it in 2015 but think she must have needed to go to specsavers and thought the 3 was a 5. It is sorted but just wondered how bank said it is nothing to do with them when it is taken off my bank account
It is the insurer who requests it. If they have authorisation the bank should pay it.
If teh card was valid I don't see why RBS would have declined it. I think it's more likely that the insurer had the wrong date on its records and didn't submit a request once the date had expired
