I use Virgin Media for broadband, TV and home telephone, today I received an email telling me that my latest payment could not be collected from my bank and as a result all of my services would be disconected the next day if I did not renew the payment by filling in my bank details, I was nearly taken in by this as it looked so authentic until I noticed that some of the links such as "contact us" and "about Virgin Media" did not work, so please take care these emails are looking more realistic now.
I have now reported and sent on the email to Virgin Media, I can honestly see why some elderly people are caught out by these scammers, normally you can tell them by either bad spelling or grammear etc but this one was nearly perfect apart from the links.
I reported on the same thing a couple of weeks back - got some patronising replies from our AB 'computer experts'. Since then I notice these coming in fits n starts - have reported to Virgin - but now TBH I just mark them as spam and move on.
Like you said Secsee, my aim in posting was to help others support vulnerable friends and relatives.....it fell somewhat on deaf ears here at the time - so I'm glad you've raised it again.
I am on the phone to Virgin Media as I type. there is a recorded message about this scam email at the beginning of the call. looks like they are taking it seriously.
