Did it with groups of friends (didn't go to meetings - not my thing). Looked complicated but "points" system easy to work out. Good kick start, flexible way of doing things as long as you stay within points, healthy and not faddy. Good way of working out where you are overeating normally (e.g. portion sizes). Like all other healthy eating plans, gotta stick to it!
Well I know it's not Weight Watchers but just in case you wanted a general idea... My wife started to go to Slimmers World at the start of last year. Although she wasn't "fat" she was overweight and was very unhappy with the way she looked. She also looked much older which really worried her because she never used to look her age.

By the end of June she had lost 2 stone and to us she looked brilliant. However she's now lost almost three stone and looks absolutely fabulous. When we look back at our holiday snaps we can see a massive difference between then and now.

She is also much more confident and happier within herself and can't stop buying clothes. To say she's got a new lease of life would be the understatement of the year. I took a photo of her the other week just before we went out and it's now used as the wallpaper on our desktop... Although she's 42 I think in the photo she looks less than 30, (and so do my sisters) and no-one has changed the wallpaper in two weeks which is a record for our house!

If you're looking for encouragement I would say go for it. The change in my wife is remarkable, she's gone from an (almost) frumpy 41 year old to a foxy chick in new clothes... Hubba-hubba as I do believe they say!

Right. On looking back at my answer, I realise that I have made a VERY IMPORTANT MISTAKE... Where it says, "At the beginning of last year," it should read, "At the beginning of this year (2003)... I would also add that when I mention the end of June, this is when the holiday snaps were taken... I'm sure you will realise this makes a big change to the original text!!!

I have to go now because my lovely slim wife wants to kill me...!

Just one final thing...

From my wife's own words, she never felt hungry (she could eat loads of the right kind of foods) and she would recommend it to anyone.

How wonderful for your wife (and you) gazzawazza! :o) The way a woman feels has everything to do with the way she perceives herself and the fact that her husband adores her has probably done wonders for her on so many levels.

I'm considering w.w. just to get a change of mindset about food and nuitrition. But I wonder if these programmes can lead to one obsessing about food and their point values. Also, are the plans sustainable in the long-term after one stops going to the meetings? Another thing: I do not cook - I don't have the time or the ability. Will the diet plans require me to do so?

beenee, you can eat extremely heathliy and cook it in no time at all. How long does it take to cook and apple or a salad or for that matter a very yummy and healthy stir fry, not long. I have had a go at the slimfast plan and that worked well for me. Its not that expesive really and its fast as its either a shake, soup, pasta or one of their new ready meals. It was easy to work out what I could and couldnt eat. One of my problems is that I fantasise about food, what I mean is I might get to work and then think about what I was going to have a lunch and I would end up eating something that was bad for me. With slim fast (or any diet really) if you know what your having in a advance there is no need to think about food all day.
