My mum has to make a large sponge cake - she's using 8 times the normal amount - so 32oz of flour, sugar and margarine, and 16 eggs. Any idea whatsoever how long this might take to cook?!

Thanks

It would depend on the size of tins she is using.
Is she going to make several regular size round layers and pile them up or lots of rectangular layers(swiss roll tin size) to make a huge flat double layer?
I can't see that that quantity could be cooked as one sponge.

Oh good point...I assumed one big cake...though thinking about it possibly two large flat square layers on top of each other.

what the hell is she making! Give me the size of cake and what is the celebration she is making it for and for how many portions and I can help you. Is the cake to be filled(sandwiched)?
