Why do the worms in my compost prefer to gather under the lid instead of munching away in all the beautiful rubbish(garden & kitchen) that I put in the bin>

Are they coming for the moisture at the top?
They often gather in the lid after heavy rain - could that explain it?

Thank you Pauline & Lizwizz, but I try to keep my compost dry if poss, to prevent it becoming slimy,also it was half(bottom half) emptied recently.I drain the kitchen waste before adding.Do you think it should be watered?
