central heating advice

i've just had a quote for installing a bosch combi boiler, + 9 radiators this is for a 4 bedroomed house with 2 reception rooms. i really don't want to be ripped off do you think this figure is too steep?

If your house already has a central heating system then I would replace the radiators myself as this would cut the cost drastically. When a plumber replaces the radiators he will use the existing pipework anyway so by doing the radiators yourself it then becomes a boiler change plus taking out the old cylinder tank. We had a similar thing done and it cost around �1200

Hi Simon I currently have a multi point system with only wall heaters so this would be a complete new system........do you think it is still too steep?

If it is a complete new system ie no existing pipework then the answer is no I don't think it is too steep. Carpets will have to be lifted floorboards removed, it is quite a big job. So in my humble non plumber opinion it sounds reasonable.

One thing I forgot to mention, British Gas are very very expensive so If you have been quoted by them then you could have it done by an independent plumber a lot cheaper possibly down to �3000

It's not a British Gas quote its another supposedly reputable company that gives unbeatable prices.......still going to get a few more quotes regardless. I was told about british gas being very costly.
