Acer Aspire desktop

grey screen comes up. press Del for something, F12 to boot. Nothing happens no lights on any of the lappy's which I've plugged into the tower. It's taken me since 14/30 to get on ere via son's lappy....

We used to have an oilstone, can't find the thing anywhere but do have a steel. I've never used one but have seen chefs on TV use one. Do you have to do it that fast? I'd cut myself....
