Opel/Vauxhall corsas..are they always this much trouble?

I live in Ireland. I drive an Opel Corsa 1999. It has 1.2 v engine-its an eco tec type. I have it six months. after it was serviced both engine and exhaust gave me trouble. engine light would come on...
