Why can't I just upload a picture from my computer to use as my avatar? Why must I sign up with gravatar to obtain an avatar?

Skype installation - not!

Have put this question on Techn as well.Why can I not creat an account on al skype? Having filled it all in and pressed "I agree - continue" it goes back to the blank fill in your details...
