Trying to make back-up for HP laptop.

I have been trying to make a back up for my Windows 7 HP laptop but the disc sticks at 75%. Does anyone know why this is happening?

DVD hard drive diagnostics

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to connect my DVD recorder's hard drive to a PC or lap top? I have a Toshiba dvd recorder that will not switch on. I get the message HDD error then it switches off....
