Why do books of stramps now have 2 perforated holes in them? When the stamp is removed this sometimes tears out of the stamp.

How does the mechanical switching on / 0ff work. Why if it is dismantled and reassembled does it not function. (Loss of magnetism) Can it be restored? Can anyone help?
