Touring caravans

We have rented a touring caravan and are heading to the South of France - we've never done this before (rented a caravan that is). Are there any really obvious things that we should know? Thanks

Any ideas?

Twice in the last five days someone has counted my children (I have five) by pointing at them and mouthing the numbers 'one, two, ... etc'. As the number gets higher they look more and more outraged....

What have I just seen in the sky?

Bright orange - way bigger than a star, going the opposite way to the space station, had a bit of a tail, started off low, then went up (sideways) quite slowly, then just went smaller and disappeared.
