Driving from UK to Italy at the end of January.

Thank you for the useful websites @count-a-strong @nibbles. If mountain passes are out, what would be a) the cheapest b) the most scenic route from France into Italy?

Driving from UK to Italy at the end of January.

We are driving a van from UK to Italy at the end of January. Does anyone know if there are any mountain passes between France and Italy that usually stay open? Plus any B&Bs in the Gap or Digne...
