what is my partner to expect at an oral hearing in prison?

will it be like a retrial at court?

lets just say my partner is not a bad lad,he made 1 mistake in feb 2008 where he was involved in a fight in a club he was charged with a section 18 & in aug 2008 he was imprisioned for 27...
