Alitalia Airlines

Anyone have any insight on what's going on with Alitalia airlines? I had made plans to fly from Spain to France this fall, but now I'm not so sure. Any better ideas that aren't too costly?

I am going on holiday the first 2 weeks of April this year 2008. The first week i am going to Sri Lanka, the second week I am going to the Maldives. Do I need any vaccinations and/or malaria tablets.
