Spam e-mail.....

I keep receiving loads of spam emails for viagra etc. there is no unsubscribe thingy to click on (not that I subscribed in the first place!)
They are going to my spam folder but I would prefer not to get them at all.
Is there a way of stopping them coming through?

The only surefire way of doing this is to set your email client to "Only accept mail from addresses in your contacts list" - or something to that effect depending on the email client you are using.

This will do exactly what it says though so you will need to manually enter every address you are interested in such as online services, shopping, etc. etc., this will become tedious and you may still miss things.

Or you could just accept that everybody gets their junk folder filled with this rubbish and just ignore it.

Clicking on those unsubscribe links in spam emails just confirms that the spammers have a genuine email address and means you'll get more spam.

The only way to stop yourself getting spam is not to put the email address anywhere online, as soon as you start signing up for things with an email address that address will end up on mailing lists and you'll get spam.

I (like a lot of people) have a separate address I use for signing up for anything that I'm not 100% sure of so the secondary address gets spam but my main ones don't.

Ignoring it does sound the easier option! I was hoping there was a way to block it somehow.

The certain way to indicate your account is in use, and the ads are getting to you is to ask to unsubscribe (or respond in any way). Manna from heaven to a spammer. Like a big sign flashing, "send me more and more and more and more and more ......."

'Unsubscribe' only works to those companies you have dealt with in the past and think it is ok to spam you because you didn't notice nor untick a small box somewhere.
