You know how on facebook you can see your friends on line ?..would it be poss to do this here..? if you want to catch someone in particular instead of a FOA and hope for the best..or would the logistics be too great ?..just a thought !

I liked the PM facility - but in the absence of that, I think a simple FAO section would be very useful. I wouldn't want AB to go the way of other forums with 'friends' though.

Other forums allow you to see who is on at any given time. But they are set up differently from AB.
Say there are 2,000 people logged in, how will AB list them?
I'm not actually sure how useful that would be. I am nearly always signed in to AB but quite a lot of the time may actually be looking at a compeltely different website, or just left the computer on and wandered off to do something else instead (this is most likely). So it would show I'm logged on without me actually being present so to speak.

would there ever be 2000 ? are there 2000?..don't know is the answer not a techie, just a thought !
I do think it would be interesting to know how many AB'ers are logged on at a given time (lunch break etc..) but like CD says some people just wander of.....
and leave it unaten.......
Ed did mention the other day/week how many members there were. I've forgotten though.
ummmm, lovely and helpful as ever ;-)
We'd have to introduce the notion of "friends" or "connections" somehow.

Otherwise we'd have to pop a list of 300-600 names somewhere...

We'd like to do private messaging in the future.
Thanks :-)

that would be useful ed
Perhaps we could have a lot more Latest Posts - 6 isn't a lot.

Of course, that would take up good advert space....

agree ven..sometimes I am not quick enough and lose the thread..
I Do Not wish the AB site to become anything that resembles Facebook.
The anonymity of us users is what makes it so appealing. Anyway who would want to see my old wrinkled face.!!.....Better if you imagine me as a handsome young chap, not an oldie which I am. :-)

Ron.
you did private messaging in the past. I think it broke the internet, though.
Am I correct in understanding that the Facebook site has a personal Messaging facility.? Consequently I ask "Is that the way Aber's would wish our site to progress into a realm of problematic communications"?

An earlier posting of mine reads:-

I have always felt that an FAO section would be useful. However, Not one for Personal Messages as such. Merely a spot where we could draw a person's attention to a posting in which he/she may have a particular interest or perhaps a specialised knowledge to reply to a question. It would only require a two box 'set-up' into which one could put a 'Username' followed by a link to a question.

AB. Stay as sweet as you are. We don't want to be like 'Facebook' thats why we're on AB. IF it ain't broke don't fix it.

Well said Jemisa....I'm off to bed now.

Night night..pleasant dreams to you .....Ron.
No - leave it like it is, that's what I like about it. It's not supposed to be a personal chat room.
