My understanding is that Java is not the problem. The problem seems to be js.fakecodec
It would be a shame if people got rid of Java, or were tricked into downloading something nasty disguised as a Java update hoping this would solve the problem.
It would be even more of a shame if lots of people opted for the solution of using the tool which does work (can't name it here) but would reduce the attractiveness of AB (i.e AnswerBank) to advertisers and could effectively mean the site can't afford to operate

I agree f-f, the problem is Not Java but what has been identified by Anti Virus Programmes as a fake Java Script Codec, which appears to have come from AB.
It has certainly caused a lot of distress amongst ABers without a word from AB staff about the problem which prevailed.
Unless anyone actually needs Java they should get shot of it, because I understand that it has been known to be responsible for also downloading malware.
Hans.

It doesn't look to me Tilly as if Ed is going to respond to most of the threads on this or issue a general statement. However he did respond to one today about the fakecodec problem and simply replied "zapped", so it seems the matter is being addressed. I'd have thought a few words when he gets chance may stop all these threads continuing so i hope he's able to say something.
f-f....I was following that thread and I am Not sure whether the OP's question has been 'zapped' or the problem which was being encountered by TheWinner.....His posting has been 'redacted' by the Ed... Hence the original posting has had the facts removed.
Things are all very strange at the moment in AB and the Ed is having a lot thrown at him.
