Script

I have a Toshiba laptop with 'windows 7' and use 'talktalk' wi fi broadband as my isp. I use internet explorer - 'google' as my main search engine and yahoo as my email provider. I am repeatedly getting messages when I go into 'facebook,' 'answerbank' etc that says '..... has stopped responding due to a long running script' the guy in comp shop says it sounds like a 'registry' error or corruption. I mentioned 'malwarebytes' and he said that would clean viruses but not solve problem, so I downloaded and ran a free registry cleaner, without success. restarting my comp seems to sort things out for a while, but the problem persists. I don't want to fork out £50 to the comp shop. I can get a new laptop for £229 from asda! Any ideas much appreciated with sincere thanks. Bob

Unless you know what your doing I would not use a registry cleaner, free or paid for.

Bob.....Do as suggested by SlackAlice........Get a better browser....I don't think you will do better than Firefox. Furthermore, 'Registry Cleaners' can do more harm than good and even render a computer/laptop completely inactive.
Strange advise from 'guy in comp shop'.... Surely,if Malwarebytes can get rid of Nasties then it can solve certain problems. It's worth trying Malwarebytes to see if anything untoward has arrived within your Laptop.
If you haven't already got Malwarebytes then get the Free version and avoid any trial offers of the Premium edition :-

You could try this:
Open Internet Explorer
In the top menu, Click on Tools and then Internet Options
Click on the Advanced Tab
Find where it says “Disable Script Debugging” and tick the box beside it
Now, Find where it says “Display a notification about every script error” and untick the box beside it. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
