Afternoon all!

We've been considering giving you the opportunity to remove adverts across the site with Google's new "contributor" option.

This would mean that if you wanted to remove ads, and continue to support the site in a small way, you could do so.

Obviously this wouldn't apply to everyone, but there's a few on here who might fancy removing adverts while still contributing to the continued existence of the site :)

Anyway, how much would you consider a reasonable price?

I think ab should pay me for my time spent on their site.... The company I work for does :)

Bazile, I use adblocker only because it kept messing up both my computer and kindle. To this day, I am sure my kindle is still not ok.

Baz, I use one, but only since the Ads started to mess with the Site, the Ads never bothered me before that, never saw anything I wanted to buy so just ignored them most of the time, they weren't a problem, at least not before they tried to take over.
Some of the ads are utterly pointless. I buy something on the web then I get my screen festooned with ads. for the self same thing err.....why? I've already bought it!
ok - so the only people i can see ( i might be wrong ) paying to have the ads blocked ,are those who experience problems with said ads

I don't pay to block mine, it's a freebie with Chrome (you can turn it off)
Maybe you could give a quota of free questions (5?) then charge per question.

That might improve the quality of some posters posts.....

(But leave CB free!)
Many Abers post far more answers than questions, shoota, and AB needs as many questions as it can get to keep it going.
If AB starts to charge a fee I think we will lose a lot people to FaceBook which boasts it will always be free.
As to adverts the worst is not AB itself, but when you click on a link, the Daily Mail site is particularly bad 29 adverts from one 'Mail' link a day or two back.
If you insist on availing your site to my modem I should charge you.

tamborine - it's actually the other way round, your modem is accessing our server.

So there :P

Again, to repeat:

This is a discussion about an optional charge on a member by member basis to allow you to switch off adverts.

This NOT a discussion about ab charging and access fee.

Please separate these two concepts :)
I ignore the ads.

Thats a good idea shoota, as there is to many silly post from the cliques, and lots of questions asked, that could easily be found on Google etc.
Ed, Your site was streaming into my house before my modem netted you. So there back 2u ;)
The ads don't bother me. I don't read them.
I find some of the questions that can be easily answered by googling interesting - things I have never thought of.

Your point about google may be indeed correct - however there are often questions asked , which i'm sure a lot of people did not know that they did not know the answer to - and find it interesting , reading the answers
I agree, Bazile. And no matter how inane, AB needs questions.
Same as chrissa.
I use an Adblocker, although it's disabled for AB. I also block Pop ups by default and that remains on everywhere. I use the internet quite a lot and it's noticeable how much slower the AB site is when 'cycles' to its next batch of adverts from Adchoices. At one time the Adblocker was switched on for AB but some improvements have been made.

Your also using up some of your data allowance when you d/l them to display on your pc/laptop/tablet whether or not you deign to read them or not. Also, it's slower to type an answer to a thread whilst waiting for your words to catch up to what you actually typed. My connection is a fast cable connection so I know thats not the problem.

Would I pay a monthly subscription? The answer is No.

I think you may do better with a 'Donate' link at the top of the page.
