Will this statement by the Ed merely result in more serious threads being posted in Chatterbank rather than the allotted 'serious' sections?

Ahhh, so if someone replies, how are we to know that they have given the right answer? They may not have, whio decides whether it's correct or not? who decided if it is a complete answer or that more could be added?
i think this lad asking our advice was a windup,so i answered accordingly it was my opinion which i am entitled to,so why should the ed get his knickers in a twist over this there was nothing vindictive in any of the answers, how can the ed tell if it was a serious thread?
Well I'll just sit on the side and watch...
I think that providing your answer is 'on topic' there can be as many contributions as necessary, it's just when the answers start wandering that legs will be slapped.......
^^You still haven't got it sorted in your own tiny mind, have you tammo ?

Just because you are entitled to an opinion, does NOT mean that you are entitled to post that opinion any-old-where, especially when you have read enough from the Ed advising you not to.

Now back to SAB with you........you'll have some more name-calling to do soon enough.
well said dotty, excatly what i was trying to say.
Have to say 100% behind Ed here.
Some of the judgemental posts are beyond the joke.I admire some of the posters patience in order to get some help.
Who are we to stand in judgement ? Its become a kangaroo court there. What happened to innocent until found guilty?

As an aside I also was directed to AB albeit about football question -I stayed can see why some dont...its not user friendly in the main althought thankfully some today managed to rise above the fools and actually assist this young man.
tammo -youre a wind-up and tell your mates on the dark side to stop giving the game away-now that was free advice:)
I agree with Dotty. Many questions are asked on this forum which should more properly be addressed directly on the ground to those qualified in the particular area (I'm thinking mainly of law and medicine). Even those members who are professionally qualified in the respecive fields cannot be expected to give a 'correct' answer, unless they are in possession of all the known facts. Many posters ask such questions merely to share their feelings and experiences, probably in need of some comfort. My response has always been, "I think that this might be such-and-such, but please contact your solicitor/GP if you are at all worried".
Hear hear, mike.
In some cases the question detail is so vague a guess is the only way forward.
so have pretty much we decided that it's carry on as normal then? Apart from doing our extra special best to give the best answers within our capacity just for the ed?
Yes Mike, you've said what I was thinking. Thanks for doing all the work (typing).
I must confess to being one of the first to post a 'funny answer' if something witty occurs to me. The difficulty is gauging the response when one is not face-to-face. Sometimes this leads to an hilarious thread, at others it causes great offence. I think that if we all followed the Ed's instruction, 'If you don't know the (correct) answer, don't post', many questions would remain unanswered, leaving the OP to feel that he/she was not part of this community. The logical concomitant of this is that all of Molly's threads would consist of a question and no answers! (I'll probably get into trouble for sayig this).
Mike- you cannot get into trouble for being right.
The pseudo-Swedish person the other day was a case in point - it was daft and got the Ello Ello answers, but it was very funny.
But that was kn0bby in Chatterbank, boxtops.

I think the Ed is concerned that the frivolities exhibited in CB don't bleed out into other more.....erm......sensible areas of Answerbank :o)
Precisely, boxtops. It kept me hilariously amused for two full hours, never laughed so much in my life, and I was compelled to respond, as in 'Allo Allo' speak. It would have been nothing less than a crime to have pulled that thread.
That sounds interesting. Any chance of a link please?
got to say it does wind me up the respondent obviously hasn't read the question. For instance when I post "does anyone know where I can get xxxxx?, I have looked on ebay" and some fool posts "try ebay"
different if they say "there is one on ebay here (link)
