Wanadoo Broadband Connection Problems
My problem is exactly the same as the one outlined by hilary.denni on 25/03/05. A friend gave me the details of the suggested cures for this random connection fault. I've checked everyhing suggested in the replies to hilary on 25/03/05, and the only remedy which works after the line has dropped out is the one suggested by Cornish Boy, i.e. phoning my mobile for a few seconds! This does work, but is very annoying to have to keep doing. The helpline for Wanadoo Broadband is about as much use as a chocolate teapot! If it's not covered in their preset script thay don't have the faintest idea, and show a marked disinterest in attempting to give any meaningful help. After my PC has been shut down for 8 or 9 hours there never seems to be a problem connecting. But after that it's a lottery as to whether or not I stay connected for 5 minutes or 5 hours!
Can anyone please help a novice to solve this problem

Its difficult to try to diagnose because I dont know what equipment your using and what happens when you lose connection but I'll give you some general advice. If you're using a modem look at the status of the lights when you disconnect - if the ADSL light stays solid green then the modem is still picking up the bb OK. If that light is flashing or off it means it's either having a problem detetcting the signal or it can see the signal but it cant sync with it.
I can think of loads of things to suggest but there's no point me going through them all - if you can answer these questions I should be able to help you to resolve it or at least point you in the right direction.
1)Do you use a modem or router?
2)Whats the status of the ADSL light when the connection drops?
3)Do you have an ADSL filter plugged in to every socket for that line? How many other sockets do you have and what other equipment do you have plugged into that line?
4)Does making an outbound call always solve the problem?
5)Who is the phone supplier - is it BT?
6)Have Wannadoo conclusively ruled out a potential fault with the bb service?
To Daisy 13,
Thnaks for the reply. Answers are as follows:-
1. I use a Speedtouch 330 modem provided by wanadoo.
2. One light is constant, one is flickering.
3. I was provided with a filter splitter when I received the modem. I use an extension cable because the BT phone point is in the hall, and the PC is upstairs.
4. Yes, if I make a call to my mobile for a few seconds from the landline, that usually works.
5. Yes, BT is the phone line supplier.
6. I usually check the Wanadoo B/B helpline for any failures in service.
I've uninstalled & reinstalled the modem software both from the original Freeserve CD, as well as from a Thomson SpeedTouch CD sent to me by Wanadoo. I've done several system restores, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. Oddly enough, over the past 2-3 days the problem seems to have gone away, but I'd still like to get to the bottom of it!
OK to be honest I think this probably a filters / wiring setup issue. Your modem can see the adsl but cant pick it up properly. But then again it could be drivers or a fault. I just posted a really huge answer to you and Answerbank gave me an error message and it just got lost - this might need some depth and a bit of time but I'm really happy to help you, if you want me to. Even though service is working OK at the moment you'll probably find that this problem comes back. To save using this forum though email me ([email protected]) and tell me:
How many sockets do you have for that one line? Filter in use for evey socket? Or just the one that the BB plugs into?
Extension cable - how long is it and does the filter plug in downstairs or upstairs?
What version of windows do you have and do you know which version of the drivers that your using? Is the modem green or silver?
