What age do you need to be to buy a "PG" rated film in a shop?

Thanks Chris - I looked on there and couldn't see one either. The woman in Tesco last night was talking a pile of crap then!

I was in buying a few bits and pieces at the self service till and my 10 year old went and chose himself a dvd to buy with his pocket money and went to the till next to me. Of course, it alerts for a staff member to get the security tag taken out and the woman was saying to him that he couldn't buy it without an adult. AS I was there anyway, it was not a problem, but just got me wondering, she said he had to be 12.

That's probably the store's own (ultra-protective) policy, which has been put in place to prevent an (equally ultra-protective) parent from complaining that Tesco had allowed their child to purchase a DVD which the parent didn't want them to watch. It's definitely not a legal constraint.

Thanks Chris, just wondered. He's now guessing that he needs to be 15 to buy a 12 and 18 to buy a 15, but then wondered if he'd have to be 21 to buy an 18!

Actually, if I'd been her, i'd have been more concerned that she thought a 10 year old was unaccompanied in Tesco at 10 to 10 at night.!! (we'd ran out of milk so it was an emergency trip and junior came along for the ride as his pocket money was burning a hole in his pocket)
