My Mother in law is 97 (Her sis is 100 this year) and has recently had a stroke.She has been in hospital for about 4 weeks to date.She is suffering from dementure ,cannot walk and her arms are weak. she needs help with feeding , getting out of bed and into a chair, etc.She has her own bungalow but I believe she needs 24/7 care wherever she goes. The question is, is it nursing care she needs (NHS should pay) or general care?

it sounds like general care to me (when i was a macmillan nurse even people who were unconscious on a syringe driver didn't sometime qualify!) but it's a specialist area therefore it would be best to get her assessed

Thanks Bedknobs...We will get her assessed but I think you are right.She needs looking after more than actual nursing. Still.it's worth a try! Cheers, John.

just think to yourself "does a qualified nurse have to do these tasks or can they be done by a "carer" If the former, it's nursing care and should be NHS funded, if the latter it's "care"
