What kind of message does this give out, not only to other potential mobile phone thieves, but more importantly, to the family of this poor policewoman? Neither of the two apologised for this woman's death.

170 iPhones are stolen across London every day Police said a total of 56,680 mobile phones were stolen in the capital in the six months between April and September this year — and half of those were iPhones.

Wouldn't a more stricter sentence have gone a long way to get the message over that this kind of crime will not be treated lightly?

I do not think they caused her death. She must have had an medical condition that could have occurred anytime.

The fine is pathetic. These phones cost £600+. The fine should reflect the value of the item(s) stolen.

if it wasnt them it would have been someone else ... it would have happened at some point.

superfit triathlon runners dont just keel over and die because they run after someone... clearly something was wrong with her, and it would have happened regardless.

i agree the fine and punishment is too low though... £42.50 is hardly a deterrent, and they are too young to fully comprehend the affects of having a criminal record.

Not 'alleged' offenders, 'convicted offenders, their first offence caused the death of a policewoman while she was pursuit of them, so a suitable punishment would be imprisonment in a young offenders institution.

They might not have caused her death, but the sentence is not nearly tough enough. It is time we had harsher penalties, we need to send a message that no crime will be tolerated. My heart goes out to her family and collegues.

I still consider that they did, perhaps not intentionally but had they not committed the crime, she would not have had cause to run after them, not knowing if she had caught up with them she might be facing a death from stabbing.

All this must have been in her mind plus the exertion of the chase, all bringing on stress and physical pressure, could have caused her death.

Yes I agree she could have died in other similar circumstances, but she didn't she died chasing them.

There are several possible causes of Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest.

In some countries, such as Italy, screening for this condition is mandatory for footballers and sufferers are not allowed to play. But in Britain it is up to individual clubs.

So one could say that perhaps Bolton Wanderers should have screened him for the condition, before allowing him to play.

People die at work all the time and this is no different. She died doing something she had probably done hundreds of times before.

The fact she was answering this particular call on that day does not mean it was the cause of her death which was undoubtedly an undiagnosed medical condition.

It was unfortunate to have happened when it did, but blaming the thieves for her death is barmy.
