Hope this post doesnt get deleted, its a serious query.
Just why is porn mainly seen as a 'man' thing?
I'm a man and I like porn. Ive had girlfriends who have loved a bit of porn (especialy if that porn has got a 'story' to it and not just sex acts been filmed), Ive had other girlfriends who have hated it and seen it as been degrading to women (but curiously not degrading to men...) Overall though, porn is seen as a man thing. Why is that? And why is it seen as degrading to women but not to men?
Dont want a smutty thread here, I'm genuinely curious in the different ways we see things.

Because men get to look at beautiful women as their desire, whilst women have to put up with hairy arsed men, and so have less likelihood of finding that great ?
Or, of course, it could have either nature or nurture reasons. Perhaps the way the brain is wired encourages more interest in relationships than visual images of the body ?
As for the "degrading" opinion I suspect one has to first decide one is not keen on porn, and then project how they would feel across the board and think others with a different view are doing something bad. It says more about those holding such views, especially those who act on them, than it does bout porn itself.
Plus I suspect such individuals have the opinion that porn means men doing things to women rather than individuals doing things to themselves or holding an equal responsibility/whatever in a situation. Maybe they thing men couldn't degrade themselves no matter how they tried :-) Which would be a rather sexist viewpoint if it turned out to be true. But there again that's the way life is.

I can't imagine a "straight" women would be overly interested in a pair of naked woman's breasts on page 3 of a newspaper. But for the male population it's a nice lift to the day. And it's been a long long time since I have had such a lift, do they still do it ? Meanwhile I think the women are assumed to not be fussed about it, or at least the more reasonable ones. I seem to recall the Mirror used to have a bare chested fellow at some point too.
Porn isn't just two people going through the motions of 'making love' for the cameras. Bestiality, S+M, r*** fantasy, and watersports, are all part of the porn industries output.
So when you mention porn and say: "Ive seen documentries with porn stars and most of them love their work (male AND female)", I'm entitled to say that I doubt if the people engaged in bestiality for the cameras are there for any other reason than the money.
Hi All,
Very interesting thread and well argued. Just one tiny change to keep it "nice" :-)
