someone's give me a break in getting a bit of voluntary work where my criminal convictions, alcohol problems and mental health issues dont count against me, in fact they are positivly seen as a plus. I'm helping out at an organization that deals with addicts (drink, drugs) that are in the criminal justice system.
They knew all about me as 2 yrs ago I had been through the same organization after getting a referal (order) from the courts. Told them that I still drink every now and then when things get on top of me (as evidenced on here at times) and that I still struggle with depressive moments. But the fact that Id kept away from the courts for 2 years seemed to have gone a long way( and I no longer have my 2 yr suspended sentence hanging over me) And they seem to appreciate experience over qualifications.
I started yesterday and loved it. Just a bit of group work at the moment....meet and greet, bit of paper work etc but its a start. They actually offered me more work but one step at a time for me.

Just wanted to share my (for me at least) good news.
Wish more organizations were as open rather than looking down their noses at people that are offering their free time to them.

Naval....where Nailit is now is what this organisation hopes to help others to achieve......who better to work there really?

To reject people like Nailit and not recognise their achievements and progress would make their organisation....well a waste of time I guess.....x

well done nailit - the first step - it's good news to all of us who've been following your story. :-)
Like they use ex gang members to try and educate our youth about the dangers of gangs.

Or the police trying to recruit ex religious fanatics...
