With colours like Red and Purple they do tend to run quite a bit on the first few washes, i used to colour my hair lots but even though it ran the colour didn't fade, i would probably have used Dove or Fructis. Try and get one that says its for coloured hair.
The same thing happened to me when I had my hair dyed red. I can't remember what shampoo I was using at the time but I'm sure it wasn't Pantene. My hairdresser told me that it happened all the time with certain types of hair dye. I think Timotei or Palmolive are fairly gentle shampoos, they might be worth a try.
