Vimto

I bought a bottle of Vimto squash recently just to try it out. It has that typical vimto taste that recall the smell of germolene from my childhood. Does anyone have any idea what herbs/spices etc could give it that distinctive taste. I realise the recipe for the stuff is meant to be secret.

Are you sure it was Vimto and not Dandelion and Burdock (sp) ?

The only drink that (to me) smells of 'Germoline' is root beer.

Vimto squash ? the best is from cans followed by plastic bottles but squash is a no no, imo.

As young girls, my friend and I used to go in the herbalist shop for hot vimto cordial.Lovely.

Yes it was Vimto squash. currently being advertised on TV in the UK. It was on offer in Farmfoods and cheaper than the major supermarkets.

I'd like to know as well.
I didn't like Vimto first time round, it definitely , for me, has a distinctive aroma.I gave it another go a year or so back and i'm now.addicted to the squash.I currently have a dozen bottles in the cupboard (on special at ASDA :) )

Barsel - hot vimto cordial was our staple at school! Vimto cordial is the real deal, not fizzy stuff in cans. As I recall, whatever's in it includes a lorra lorra vanilla. And sugar. So that's all the main nutritional groups covered.

I remember coming across a fizzy bottled version first when I was on scout camp. Many moons ago. Liked it then. Have had the odd bottle of squash over the years. Can;t recall it smelling of anything other that fruit though, but it has been a while since I last tried.

Aye medical smell, that does sound more like root beer. (The Americans can't like their kids much if that is their childhood drink of choice !)

Yes, the squash is definitely worth trying. It's a lot more than a combination of fruits. Whilst I appreciate the list of ingredients which I've seen myself on the internet and container, there's more to it than that.

The bottle mentions a "secret" mix of herbs, spices etc that give it the distinctive flavour. Vimto would never disclose these herbs and spices but I just wondered if someone with a better tasting ability than me could tell what they might be. Surely, they can't only be present in Vimto. I'm not even sure I could describe the taste if someone asked me!

The taste is not found in any other soft drink as far as I'm aware.

Germolene? Vintos never tasted of that. Are you thinking of Dr pepper or root beer...if not your taste is well off
Warm vinto has special memories.
As for fizzy and zero sugar it's wrong ,plain wrong.
As a kid and from lancs vimto should only ever be cordial.
We still have the factory within 2ml from home

Vimto lollies are wonderful. I used to buy them from our local chip-shop as a boy in the 50s - made in a tea-cup for 3d. They're still my go-to lolly when the weather is hot.
