Problems With Hearing Aids

My mother needs a hearing aid but she is not having much luck with the NHS one she has received - it keeps whistling - but she cannot hear it. It also makes her ears rather sore. I have seen these tiny little things (like the blue one on the boots advert). Are these simpler to use than the NHS ones
